Local Cultures of the Northwest Caribbean

As you travel about the Northwestern Caribbean,

you’ll encounter three distinct local cultures unique to each area.

You’ll find the Garifuna who inhabit the Bay Islands of Honduras

as well as parts of mainland Honduras, Guatemala, and Belize,

the Maya, whose origins predate Christ by 2,000 years,

the Maroons, escaped slaves who hid in the mountains of Jamaica

and harassed the British soldiers and plantation owners for over 150 years,

and the Rastafarians, who sprang from Jamaica in the last century

and who can be seen all over the Caribbean as well as the entire world.
