Appendix B
Metric Conversion Table
Cruisers that are not familiar with the metric system that is in use in
most areas of the world
often have trouble trying to convert meters to yards or liters to gallons.
As a rule of thumb, a meter is just a little longer than a yard,
and a liter is very close to a quart.
If in doubt use the following table.
|
1 centimeter (cm) = 0.4 inch |
1 inch = 2.54 cm |
|
1 meter (m) = 3.28 feet |
1 foot = 0.31 meters |
|
1 m=0.55 fathoms |
1 fathom=1.83 m |
|
1 kilometer (km) = 0.62 nm |
1 yard = 0.93 m |
|
1 km=0.54 nautical nm |
1 nautical mile=1.852 km |
|
1 liter (l) = 0.26 gallons |
1 gallon = 3.75 liters |
|
1 gram (g) = 0.035 ounce |
1 ounce = 28.4 g |
|
1 metric ton (t) = 1.1 tons U.S |
1 pound = 454 g |
